Tomato Rice, the red colour , spicy , one pot pulao, that’s available as a street food in Mumbai. anyone can get Tomato rice easily in every pav bhaji stall .
The taste of Tomato rice is very similar to bhaji, that available in each and every street in Mumbai.this pulao is originated in Mumbai. The street food vendors use leftover pav bhaji to make this delicious pulao. They never throw leftover bhaji , rather , dry up the bhaji, add some extra spices , then add cooked rice and make the tongue tickling pulao.
After that people started making tomato rice at home. People having thgeir own way to make this delicious pulao. And the tomato pulao can be made in verity of ways.
This pulao is spicy but easy to make. Even you don’t have time you can make it within very less time.
When my baby started eating rice, that time I was preparing tomato rice only for her,by adding only whole spices, tomato puree and few grated carrot.
When I started making tomato pulao in original way, my family members loves it. Now tomato pulao was a frequent dish in my kitchen.
This pulao is very helpful for bachelors , who always wondering for some jhatpat , one pot meal tasty meal.
INGREDIENTS ::
Basmati rice – 1 cup
Tomatoes – 4 no
Ginger garlic green chilli paste – 1 tbsp
Onion – 2 medium
Green pepper – ½ no
Green peas – 1/4th cup
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Pav bhaji masala – 2 tsp
Chat masala – ½ tsp
Chicken masala – ½ tsp
Garam masala – 1/4th tsp
Turmeric – 1/8th tsp
Pepper powde – 1/4th tsp
Mint leaves – 4 tbsp
Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
Water – 1 & ¾ th cup
Oil – 4 tbsp
Whole spices ::
Cardamom – 2 no
Cinnamon- 1 “ pc
Cloves – 2 no
Pepper corn – 4 no
Bay leaf – 1 small
METHOD OF PREPARATION ::
Clean and soak rice for ½ an hour.
Blanch tomatoes , peel and make puree using a food processor.
Blanch the green peas too.
chop the onion into small cubes.
Finely slice the green pepper. Keep aside.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. When oil is smocking hot add whole spices .
After few second the spices will release aroma, add chopped onion.
Fry till they turns translucent.
Add ginger garlic green chilli paste and fry it well.
Add turmeric, salt , chopped mint and coriander leaves ,fry for 2 minutes more.
Add tomato puree and cook for some more time.
Add all the powder masalas and sliced pepper.
Cook it well, till the masala leaves oil.
Add strained rice , mix well with cooked masala.
Add warm water and tsp of oil.
When water boils close the lid.
Cook in medium flame & bring one whistle.
Let cooker release pressure itself.
Open the cooker add blanched peas. Mix once.
The tomato pulao is ready now.

TIPS ::
You can use regular rice if basmati rice isn’t available.
Adjust the spiciness according to your tolerance.
