For me raw Jackfruit is like veg-mutton . It tastes yummy when you make biryani with jackfruit. It is available in India only in summer season. Jackfruit is found in many varieties across countries and is classified based on the softness of its flesh.
Jackfruit’s flesh is very high in fiber content. it tastes great when cooked in spices which makes it popular among all vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes .Raw Jackfruit can be enjoyed in many form like biryani, curry, kalia whereas ripe jackfruit is used in making ice-cream and jam.
Jackfruit is a healthy fruit as it is high in energy and contain almost no fat. So eating jackfruit is guilt free and yummy. My grand maa makes excellent raw jackfruit curry, which taste like chicken curry, even far better than chicken.
If you know how to cook jackfruit then I am sure you will soon forgot chicken and will start taking it. This time we all have decided to make some fast-food (street food) recipes with an healthy option. I always make this chilli jackfruit for my hubby, who doesn’t prefer deep fried stuff, so thought to share an unique dish which contains less oil and less fat.

- 1 cup cubed jackfruit
- 1/2 cup cubed capsicum
- 1 medium sized onion (cubed and layer separated)
- 1 tbsp garlic (minced)
- 1/2 tbsp ginger (minced)
- 1 no green chilli (slit)
- 2 tsp soya sauce
- 2 tsp chilli sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato sauce
- 2 pinches of sugar
- 1/8th tsp pepper powder
- 1 tbsp corn flour
- 1/2 tbsp rice flour
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 3-4 tbsp oil

- Pressure cook jackfruit pieces with 1/2 tsp salt and 4 tbsp water for one whistle.
- Let the pressure eases itself.
- Strain the pieces and let it sit for 10 minutes or till they completely dry.
- Spread it on a plate.
- Sprinkle cornflour, rice flour, pinch of salt, little soya sauce and chilli powder and mix well with hand.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a non stick pan, when oil is hot, throw half of the jackfruit pieces into the pan.
- When one side turn brown , toss the pieces and wait till other side turns brown.
- Toss again and cook for few minutes more. Cook till all the sides turn brown in colour.
- Repeat the same step with remaining jackfruit pieces.
- Remove and set aside.
- Heat a tbsp of oil and add chopped ginger , garlic and green chilli .
- As soon as they turn brown add onion , capsicum and pinch of salt.
- Fry for a minute ,when onion become translucent, add jackfruit pieces.
- Give a nice mix.
- Finally add all the sauces along with salt and toss in high flame for 1-2 minute.
- Sprinkle pepper powder, little sugar , mix well.
- check the seasoning and throw little spring onion, mix and switch off the flame.
- serve hot.
I love the combination of the jackfruit and green beans in this dish. Sounds delicious.
