Happy Republic day all of you. As you all know, India is celebrating its  68th Republic day  . It is celebrated in India with great honor on 26th January every year. It is on this date in 1950, the Constitution of India came into force and made India a Democratic Republic country. Republic Day is the symbol of true spirit for the independent India where military parades, exhibiting military equipment, salute to the national flag by the Indian president and variety of events take place.

Republic day is celebrated with pride & honor. In India Republic day starts with flag hosting and national anthem. People wear new clothes and celebrate with whole family. This day is a national holiday and one of the imp national event for Indians.

In honor and pride we Indian feel patriotic and gladly start our day with flag hoisting.  We made tri colour dishes which represents our national flag. So this is my tri colour instant idlies. I am also sharing this recipe with  healthy-wellthy group where we decided to prepare some tri colour dishes on this day.

I have used winter delicacies  to make the idlies colourful. Red carrots are not available here so used regular pink carrots for orange colour while spinach puree is used to give green colour to the idlies. Let’s start making it.

Instructions
  1. Combine semolina aka sooji, curd, ginger, salt in a bowl add water and make a thick batter.
  2. Rest the batter for 10 minutes.
  3. Mean while wash, peel carrot and make puree by adding lil water.
  4. Wash & Chop the spinach leaves, make puree by adding 2-3 tbsp of water. Set aside .
  5. Grease the idli molds, make them ready.
  6. Heat oil in a tadka pan, add mustard seeds.
  7. When seeds stop dancing add channa dal and hing, saute till dale turns light brown.
  8. To the batter add the tadka immediately, also add 1/4th cup of water and Eno. Give a quick mix .
  9. The batter will be thick , don’t worry, it can be adjusted when we ll add carrot and spinach puree.
  10. Heat water in a steamer.
  11. Divide the batter into 3 equal portions.
  12. Add carrot puree in one batter and spinach puree with the other.
  13. Add little water to the white batter and pour into greased idli molds.
  14. Steam them for 10-12 minutes.
  15. You need to do all these task quickly as Eno has already been added to the batter.
  16. Cool them, take the colourful idlies from steamer and enjoy !!!
Recipe Notes

 

  • For marble effect  idlies,  you need to pour a tbsp of batter in a greased mold, then pour another colour of batter on the base batter, then repeat the last batter.
  • Or else you can pour a tbsp of batter as a base then pour two types of batter side by side.
  • After adding two types of puree to the batter don’t forget to check the salt level in the batter.
