whether you are ,making pumpkin cake ,pumpkin scones ,pumpkin bread , pumpkin bars or pumpkin pie pumpkin puree is necessary.no doubt pumpkin puree is also available in market .but i prefer making at home.

yes, you can cook pumpkin and make all kinds of wonderful treats.if you want to make pie then choose a sugar pie or golden pumpkin .

you can make pumpkin puree at oven or at gas flame.whether you are baking or steaming, taste remains the same.i found the recipe  from kingarthurflour  with baking option.but you can make pumpkin puree without baking so i am sharing my version of steaming option too.

lets start –

pierce your pumpkin all over with a sharp pointed knife . you want to get into the hollow interior.

microwave the pumpkin for about 10 minutes. microwaving method cuts the oven baking time just about in half.but if you don’t want to then skip it. simply cut into chunks and bake it in a 350f until tender.

then cool it and cut the pumpkin into half like picture.

scoop out the seeds.save the seeds and roast it.

place the pumpkin,cut side down on a baking sheet.

bake it in a pre-heated oven for about 45 minutes, until the pumpkin’s flesh is easily pierced with a fork.

remove it from the oven, scoop out the flesh, and puree in a food processor or simply mash it.

place it in a sieve, put a plate on top and weight it down.set it over a bowl to catch the juice,let the puree drain for 45 minutes until its thick.

save the juice too.use it in bread dough.

the puree can be stored in sterilized jar in freezer up to 1 month or can be refrigerate up to 1 week.

if you want to steam the pumpkin then cut  the pumpkin into half and scoop out the seeds, then cut into pieces .

boil water in a steamer and place the pumpkin pieces in the steamer. be sure the pumpkin pieces should not touch the water,

cover it with a lid and leave it for 30-45 minutes.until the pieces turns soft.

now take out the flesh and remove the peel..

and puree it in a food processor.

now your pumpkin puree is ready for making delicious dishes.
